I'm not going to give a play-by-play, it would take too long.
Peyton's in-house soccer team lost both games on Saturday. Their record is 1-2.
It started off with her team being short on players (this is what I don't care for with in-house rec leagues, kids don't show, don't call the coach to tell them they aren't coming)...makes me wonder what kind of social skills they will have as adults. I digress...
None of Peyton's teammates, nor herself, got a break throughout the whole game and after the first half they had to play with two of the other teams players.
It was hard to watch them struggle to stay in the game toward the end when they all got tired.
Peyton wouldn't score in the first quarter of the game..both Scott and I scratched our heads when she booted a few of her attempts wide...way wider than she normally does. I kept thinking she was doing it on purpose.
She had alot of attempts but her major victory during that game was passing it off and assisting her teammates on their scores...and her defense and ball-handling "moves" she was laying down on the other team. At one point the other team's coach was yelling, "There's four on one, someone needs to pick the ball." Peyton was manuevering in and out of about 4 of their players who could not stay on top of her long enough to get a foot on the ball. We were sitting on the sidelines between both teams parents...some of the kids on the other team are Peyton's school friends. I heard some of them say when Peyoton stole a ball or someone kicked it to her and she'd run by the sidelines, blowing by the other team..."Good, god, can anyone stop that kid?" and my personal favorite, "Here she goes again!"
By the third quarter, coach Charlie put Peyton in at keeper (goalie) and when the teams lined-up for the kick-off the other team's girls were cheering and jumping up and down..."Peyton's at keeper!" I guess they figured they'd get some touches on the ball with her out of the midfield area! Aqua Sharks wound-up losing that game 4-2
After the game...Peyton's friend (Carly) who was playing keeper in the first quarter came up with her mom (I know them both well) Carly's mom, Holly said to Peyton, "Great game kiddo and that was super sportsmanship what you said to Carly after your team scored that goal on her." Then she told me after our team kicked the goal, Peyton ran up to her, grabbed her hand and said, "Good try Carly." Then it dawned on me, she couldn't score the first quarter because she didn't want to hurt her friend's feelings. What a kid!!!! The best part, she didn't have to score any goals, it's more important that she get out there and play with her friends and develop the kind of social skills she'll take with her wherever she goes in life.
Scott was talking with one of the coaches from the other team after the game and she said, "I knew Peyton was going to be good, I had no idea she was THAT good."
The second game wasn't much better but all of the girls were pretty tired from having to play the first game with no break. Peyton still managed to do well with her moves and ball-handling, choosing to pass it to her teammates and giving them a chance to score. It didn't seem so important for her to be the one to take all of the shots, make all of the plays. She's becoming quite a team leader.
After the second game the other team's coach came up to Peyton and said, "Thank you for not killing us with 20 goals." (Peyton had a few shots hit the pole or go slightly wide)This coach was her first coach in in-house two years ago. They only beat us 3-2...even though our team was dog-tired the whole game.
Peyton was pleased with her performance even though she scored no goals. And both Scott and I told her how proud we were of her for being a good teammate and a good friend.
So all in all...it wasn't a "total" loss this past weekend.
[P.S. She did admit to me later she missed the goal kicks on Carly because she didn't want to hurt her feelings...but in a club game, when there is a keeper she doesn' know, she's going to BURN THE KEEPER!!!!!]

Soccer Score
This Fall Peyton was able to compete in the inhouse league since her club team is not doing league play, is just doing tournaments. Her first game was Saturday.
The Aqua Sharks won 5-2. Peyton scored two of the goals while assisting on two others.
She was playing keeper on the other one scored.
It was interesting to see the other team and the girls and their level of play compared to Peyton, who's somewhat advanced at her skill level since she plays club soccer. It was also nice to see her pass the ball to others and to help them set-up and score.
Funny observation. When the other team kicks it passed their own goalie out of bounds, the team who was trying to score (in this case Peyton's team) gets a corner kick. At 4th-5th grade level, they don't always do a corner kick, most times the refs just drop it and someone either kicks it or throws it in. Well, once the other team kicked it out, Peyton picked up the ball and ran to the corner. The ref with the whistle in his mouth just followed her over to the corner, she threw up her arm, he blew the whistle (while chuckling) and she kicked it and looped it around front of the goal. It landed right in the middle, right in front of one of her teammates, right where you want it to land. But it just dribbled on by because all the girls were looking at her with a "what did you do that for" look on their face.
One of the other refs approached the guy who did the corner kick and said, "they do corner kicks at this age range?" The ref replied, "Apparently!"
Peyton did it a second time, only this time she over shot to the other side of the goal because one of the fifth-graders on her team who knew what to do with it was standing there and she kicked it in to score the fifth point.
It was clear Peyton was playing at an advanced level and considering what we pay per year to be a part of Metro Select Soccer club, I think it was evident we are getting our monies worth with the level of play she demonstrated. Now we're just hoping she learns to take the leadership position and to help the other gilrs understand positioning and play set-up. They have a healthy respect for her.
One of the coaches from the other team is Peyton's crossing guard on her way to school...she told Peyton, "You're not supposed to mop us up like that!" Peyton laughed...Scott and I just smiled becasue we thought she took it easy on the other team. She could've easily done more but she was holding back...some of the girls on the other team were her classmates and she didn't want to be considered the "ball hog" running all the plays, not letting her teammates get a chance to score. She was a good leader and motivator for her team.
Next Saturday she plays two games. Two tougher teams, we'll see how the Aqua Sharks do!

New baby coming

Got an update from Grandma Sylvia and it looks like they will induce Christine on Friday, August 31.
Prayers and thoughts go out to them. I'm so excited for them.

Time for a post
It's been awhile. Just goes to show you how crazy busy I've been with work and all the goings on around the house.
Had a tournament in Granite City this past weekend. It's down near St. Louis.
Peyton was playing up on the U12 girls team. It was brutal. Lots of teams from Chicago (go figure) and St. Louis premiere league. We got our hind-ends handed to us in all three games. But then again, it was a learning experience for the girls. Only 4 of the girls on the team were actually true U12's. The rest were girls pulled-up from Peyton's U11 team. They played teams where all the girls were 11 or just turned 12. They had some pretty big girls to play against..it was brutal.
It was also the first time for all the girls to play 11 v 11. That means 11 players on your side vs 11 players on their side. Peyton and her U11 team have played 6 v 6 and 8 v 8 but never 11 v 11...so there was new positions and formations to learn.
The weekend wasn't a total bust. There was a pool at the hotel. Saturday night after the games we ate out and went to the mall in Fairview Heights. Brenna got some clothes for school and Peyton got a new pair of basketball shoes.
All in all, it was a nice getaway.
No pictures were taken, (sorry) but I kept forgetting to take the camera.

9 year-old
Peyton's birthday partay was a success. 8 of her closest BFF's came over, the neighbor's let us use their pool, there was ice cream there was cake...presents were cool. Lots of gift cards. Dad took Peyton tonight to a couple of places to spend her gift cards.
At some point during the evening the girls figured out the pool was all their's so they broke out a game of "chicken"...as you can see in one of the pictures, Peyton was the winner. Not that the other girls looked surprised by the outcome.
7th grader
She's babysitting tonight. Brought the little four-year-old by for a visit. He likes Peyton's toys, doesn't care for Bandit. She's just glad to be making some money.
