No games, no practices and yet I was still busy this week and weekend.
Had some friends over for a cookout last night and a game of Mexican Train (Dominoes).
This weekend is Homecoming weekend at the High School...and my 20th Class Reunion.
Thursday is the Parade and both girls will be participating in the Parade through town. Peyton will do the Soccer Club Float. Brenna and her tumbling/dance classmates will be representing TWIRL AND TALENT where she goes for her classes.
Friday night is the Homecoming game...and a tent for my class reunion.
Saturday is a dinner event at the Civic Center in Peoria. It should be fun. I had fun at Scott's 20th class reunion last year, met some of his friends and talked with some really great people. Lots of "pranks" will be played at ours, I'm sure. I admit, I'm more curious about who "grew-up" and who's still stuck in High School.
And finally, Mom is headed back for a visit and we'll be spending time with her for the next week or so. It's looking like Peyton will get to show her some of her "soccer" moves because her first game back from injury will be the 13th with the rec league team (Aqua Sharks).
She's been pretty active. She can already raise her arm up over her head and today she ran about 1 mile and half to keep in shape. Her club soccer team has been doing "conditioning" before every practice since August and so she'll probably fall a little behind...although most of her soccer skills involve footwork and not so much speed.
It should be busy this week, I'll post when I can.

Metro U11 Girls are No. 1
Morton Pumpkin Classic Tournament.
Peyton's team won 1st place today. Even though she couldn't play because of her collar bone, she went to the games to cheer her teammates on and sit on the sidelines in uniform.
Even though she couldn't play, at least she could sit on the sidelines and have an ice cream bar!

It's been a good weekend to be a girl athlete in Metamora, IL.
St. Mary's Grade School, in Metamora (my old stomping ground) won the Class AA State Title in Softball.
Metamora Grade School won the Class A State Title in Softball.
First time in the history of the State Tournaments that both Classes were won by teams in the same town. Quite a feat when you consider that most of the metro Chicagoland area has over two dozen schools and Metamora has only two.
Germantown Hills is considered part of the township of Metamora but is a seperate village, in case you wondered what town I was talking about. Even though we live in the village of Germantown Hills, our address is Metamora as it is the Post Office we use.
Just for those who may be a little confused. I thought I'd confuse you more.

Last days of Summer
Today is the first day of Fall...not too many more summer pictures. Air is dry, no humidity and nights are cooler.
Only a smattering of leaves are starting to turn. Two more weeks, it will be full Fall bloom.

Peyton's clavical
Peyton injured her clavical (collar bone) at practice. It took a trip to the ER Tuesday night for x-rays.
It's a good thing my 401 investments are spread throughout the healthcare industry, seeing as our family is funding it quite nicely.
She went down after getting tangled with another player going after the ball in practice scrimmage and her collar bone tore.
I say tore because she didn't exactly break it. She went to the Orthopaedic office to see Dr. Garst on Friday. He confirmed the injury the ER doc found in the x-rays.
Dr Garst described it as when a grown-up breaks their clavical (collar bone) it breaks apart and overlaps or there is a gap. Peyton's collar bone is more like a stick. When you go to bend the stick it tears but doesn't completely break through. When it heals, she'll have a bump but as she grows it will completely flatten over time. He predicted her bone would grow over the tear in about three to four weeks. She goes back for an x-ray on October 12th and he seems to think she will be ok to play in the October 13th soccer game for the Aqua Sharks.
I broke my collar bone as a kid and I had to wear one of those figure 8 slings for months (or at least it felt like months). These days, since collar bones heal faster than most bones and as long as surgery isn't required... an arm sling to hold the arm in position is all that is required. Peyton doesn't even have to wear it all day and night...she gets to take it off, only uses it during school and when we go somewhere.
She's already walking around swinging her arm back and forth. The only thing she isn't able to do as of yet is lift the arm up over her head.
She's out of PE until her next x-ray and no soccer...so she's pretty bummed.
But all in all, it's not a complicated or lengthy healing time, she still gets to play the last two games in her soccer season and a tournament with Metro Select at the end of October. So not all is lost, it's not a life-altering injury; Brenna's wrist break was definately worse than this and she is completely healed.
She did go to her make-up game (Aqua Sharks) on Thursday and cheered her teammates on. Her teammates lost 4-0. They kept saying, "Peyton we neeeeeed you!"
Mom, it looks like her first soccer game after her injury will be the one you will be here for.

The Wonderful World of Seventh grade
Brenna is still doing Chorus this year. Her first concert (Fall Concert) is in October. She is doing well so far. Snap Grades shows she is currently getting a solid B in History and a B- (almost a B) in Literature. None of the other classes are registered yet.
Brenna is signed-up for tumbling class on Monday nights and Tuesday nights is dance/poms. She is going to Twirl -n- Talent in Washington. The lady who owns this place lives across the street from us and Jenny Ashley (Jenna from soccer's mom) is the tumbling teacher. Brenna's friend Emily (Emmie) is taking both classes with her. Her mom and I will trade weeks car-pooling the kids to an from.
Next week is Jane's week, the following is mine, etc...
She is currently working on her Lit homework and playing with Bandit everytime she brings her squeeky toy over and sets it in her lap. Looks like it's my turn.
Brenna started out sixth grade as tall as my chin. She has started out seventh grade a smidge taller than my nose. She is wearing a size 5 shoe...finally doesn't have to wear little girl shoes and can find a few "cool" Jr. style shoes in 5's. should crocet her a pillow that says, "A girl can NEVER have too many shoes."

Roofing
New roof today...if the rain holds off.
The shingles currently on our roof are curling and buckling in spots...it's about 15 years old.
Time for new shingles. New color is Slate.
