SBD update

I've gotten a few questions about the total weight loss. I'm down 16.5 lbs. It's starting to slow down as I add foods back in. Also, it's been pretty "crazy-busy" these past few weeks, so all in all, not bad.

I haven't been as good about walking/exercising. I'm actually shocked that I lost weight at all. The stress from Brenna's wrist fracture and subsequent shift in focus alone would normally cause my body to just start packing on the pounds. Stress is the biggest factor in my weight. The more stress I'm under, the more I eat.

So, considering...I'm pleased.

A Scooter Trip into the Ditch

Who knew that would result in a broken wrist?

And how about that trip to the Emergency Room for X-rays and a good talking to by a resident. Dr. Zussman took care of the break and casting the next day in surgery. They had to put her out to snap the growth plate back into place. Recent X-rays show very little shifting so it'll be a hot pink short cast next week. Then possibly a waterproof cast before Seattle...or none at all, depends on the healing.

Here's a picture of her playing second base. Before the career ending (just for this year) accident. Summer is going to be awful. No softball, no pitching, no swimming, no jumping on the trampoline. However, it IS still possible to read a book, so at least the summer is somewhat saved.

Final Game - Sunday Run Down

Metro Select beat Geneseo for the final game on Sunday 10-5.

G-pa Don, we know how much you luvvvvvvvvvvv Geneseo. The Geneseo parents were more obnoxious this game then the one we beat them 3-2 in the Mossville Shoot-out in May. After many strong warnings from the ref in the first half, he went over to their side-line at half-time and we saw him talking to them and pointing to the parking lot. All of us were secretly hoping he would clear out their side as they were just plain embarrassing their girls.

So, it was an undefeated soccer tournament at a lovely soccer complex. Fun was had by all. I'm not sure what their standing was by the end of the tournament but Metro Select most likely finished in one of the top spots. Springfield Predators were slaughtering everyone in their division and their goal differential was pretty hard to beat.

Peyton scored another two goals against Geneseo for a grand total of 4 goals for the weekend. And G-pa Don, she enjoyed the 2 against Geneseo the most. :)

Game 2

Metro Select won the second game. 7-0
#8 scored 2 of those goals...and had a nice "scissor move" to move the ball around a defender.
Coach Barazzini was watching this game (he coaches the u13) and was admiring her moves.

She did great, the girls did great, I think they liked their new black shirts with their numbers on the front AND back.
Also, it's been great fun swimming in the hotel pool and always having a soccer friend to hang with. :)

Better run, it's shower, then dinner and an early night. Third and final game is tomorow 8 am.
Later!

Muscatine, IA

Last soccer tournament of the season, then we're done for the summer.
Muscatine has a nationally recognized soccer complex, and I can see why. It's gorgeous, grass is perfect. Peyton's team is playing their age bracket (instead of playing-up one) and they won their first game at 8 am this morning (2-1).

Most everybody on the team is staying at the Days Inn in Wolcott, IA and driving to the complex (about 20 minutes). We drove down last night and Scott got both girls teams registered. Right now we're all hanging out in the air conditioning and the kids are taking a quick dip in the pool before resting for game 2, which starts at 2 pm.

Tomorrow morning we play the same Geneseo team we beat in the Midwest shoot-out. It should be a good game.

The girls are having to adjust to the 6v6 (six players instead of 8) format and the field is smaller so the game is quick. They managed well this morning, just barely pulling off a win against a team from Grand Rapids MI.

More later. Time to get #8 out of the pool.

Blog Updates

In the future, when I put photos on the blog, I may delete a few on the back posts as I have limited space. So, please enjoy them while they're up and then enjoy the ones I add in their place!

Jericho is BACK!

Good news, Jericho junkies!
CBS is bringing back Jericho for 7 new episodes. More if the ratings go up. I didn't realize over 8 miliion viewers was considered, "not very many", but those 8 million, myself included, threw a big stink...and so it looks like they're bringing it back.

So watch it! It's worthwhile TV, if there is such a thing.

Now, if we could all put that kind of pressure on the Chimp in Charge to bring the troops home, we might get some reults in that travesty as well.

Tuesday Day Evening Double-Header

Grandpa Spud made it out to the High School diamond to see Peyton play a double-header against Bloomington-Normal. It got a little chilly so he had to get out his blanket.

Peyton's team lost the first game, tied the second. Grandpa got to see her smack one ball between second and center field, only to have the second base make an outstanding catch. The person on third tagged-up and ran-in to home to score because the girl who caught it threw it to third to try and get her out but third base missed it. She struck out a couple of times and walked the rest. She scored a couple of times while on base and Grandpa Spud got to see her slide into third once. She lovvvvvvves to slide. I think she'd slide even if she didn't have to.

She made the final out in the second game to keep the score tied. A fly ball to right field, both first and second were backing up to make the catch, she stepped-in at the last minute when they both pulled-back and stuck her glove out. She fell over but still managed to keep the ball in her glove.

Everyone cheered. Coach slapped her on the back and told her "Good catch, Peyton!"

Monday Night Softball

Brenna's team got beat by Riverview (9-6). It wasn't that they couldn't beat them it's just they all seemed to be having an "off" night all on the same night.

But fun was had by all and Brenna had a matching softball ensemble (shirt, visor, shorts, slider pad, etc), and really, isn't that what matters?

For those who asked...

So far I'm down 14 lbs. (As of this morning)

South Beach diet going strong!

School's OUT!

It's Summah time!

Last day the girls reported to school. Both got on the bus, stayed for an hour, got handed their report cards and then shipped back home via bus.

Peyton made the all B's honor roll.
Brenna got all B's and only one C+...only two points away from all B's honor roll. I don't want to downplay her accomplishment. Sixth grade was terribly hard and this last semester she did not lose focus and she did not give up. She brought two C's up to solid B's. Math was the sticking point but overall a C+ with tremendous effort on her part (she brought that up from a C-). She was doing Probability...it was so hard I could not help her with her homework...YEAH daddy! She still managed to get close to a B and I am so terribly proud of her effort and hard work!

Weekend Update

Friday Night
Brenna's softaball team (6th-8th graders) beat Washburn 11-6.
Scott is one of the coaches. She did a great job, brought in some runs, stole some bases and even pitched a few innings.

Saturday
Peyton had a double-header in Deer Creek. The Flames lost both games. The scores were close but I can't remember off-hand what the final's were.

Sunday
Metro Select Soccer team had 2 league play games. Lost 2-0 to Little Illini (Champaign) even though we lost, our U10 girls hung close with the older U11 girls from their team. Also, lost to SASA (Springfield) 2-0. Again, the girls hung close and even looked a bit better than the other older team. Not bad all in all.
Games were played in Bloomington.
